Brothers and sisters,
We often make salvation complicated.
We build systems, explanations, mechanisms, and formulas.
But Jesus never did.
He spoke simply—and demanded everything.
Today’s truth is this:
Salvation is simple, but it is not easy.
Because salvation is not about believing something clever.
It is about becoming someone different.
To Be with God Is to Be Like God
Jesus does not invite us to admire God from a distance.
He invites us into likeness.
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)
Notice what Jesus does not say.
He does not say: Be powerful like God.
He does not say: Be untouchable like God.
He says: Be merciful.
Not in power—but in nature.
God Judges No One — So You Judge No One
Jesus says plainly:
“Judge not, and you will not be judged.” (Matthew 7:1)
This is not advice for politeness.
It is a revelation about God.
If judgment were God’s nature, Jesus would never command us to abandon it.
Judgment belongs to fear.
God is love.
To judge others is to step away from God’s likeness.
God Is Merciful — So You Forgive Endlessly
Peter once asked Jesus how far mercy should go.
Seven times?
Jesus answered:
“Not seven times, but seventy-seven times.” (Matthew 18:22)
In other words: no limit.
Mercy is not something God runs out of.
And therefore it cannot be something His children ration.
Forgiveness is not weakness.
It is the shape of divine life.
God Loves Enemies — So You Love Without Boundaries
Jesus shocks us here:
“Love your enemies… so that you may be children of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:44–45)
This is the clearest definition of salvation Jesus gives.
Not correct belief.
Not correct ritual.
Likeness.
If your love stops where comfort ends, you are still learning the alphabet of heaven.
God Is Unlimited — So You Stop Clinging to Life
Jesus says something that terrifies us:
“Whoever wants to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25)
This is not a call to death.
It is a call to freedom.
God does not cling.
God gives.
The tighter we grip life, the more it slips through our fingers.
The moment we let go, life begins.
God has no Ego — So You Serve, Not Dominate
Jesus stands among His disciples and says:
“The greatest among you must become like the youngest,
and the leader like one who serves.” (Luke 22:26)
Then He kneels.
The God we follow does not climb.
He descends.
Not because He must—but because this is who He is.
Why Jesus Insists on Childlikeness
Jesus places a child in their midst and declares:
“Unless you turn and become like children,
you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)
Children do not calculate worth.
They do not manage image.
They do not secure control.
They trust.
They receive.
They depend.
This is not immaturity.
This is return to Heavens.
The Tree of Knowledge and the Illusion of Control
The Tree of Knowledge promised self-reliance:
- calculation
- control
- independence
And with it came fear.
And with fear came death.
Jesus does not offer us a better strategy.
He offers us a way back.
“Unless you change and become like children…”
Not wiser adults.
Not stronger managers of life.
But sons and daughters again.
The Invitation of Christ
The gospel is not an escape plan.
It is a transformation.
To be with God is to be like God.
Not someday.
Now.
Not in theory.
In life.
And this is why salvation is simple—
because the way is clear.
And this is why salvation is not easy—
because it costs us everything that is not love.
Amen.
